#33 Paint Reactions 2

Image
I tried the MIPA Epoxy and got similar results - the reaction is on the edge where the bare metal meets paint so I'm going to have to take it back to bare metal.  It's strange , there are also some bare metal areas above the swage line and at the bottom of the quarter and these haven't reacted. I've ordered some powerful Steyer paint stripper as Nitromors is a waste of time these days! B&Qs own brand Diall is more effective. I've stripped back some more of the wing and revealed more rust. They must have looked at the instructions for Hammerite - "wire brush loose rust and paint". The visible sanding marks are mine removing paint and rust and as can be seen there is more to get to yet. At least they have closed down now so they can't mess up anybody else's car!

#32 Paint reactions

I'm getting some paint reactions when using Kapci 880 epoxy primer.  I've done a solvent test on a couple of panels with Kapci epoxy thinners on a towel and the basecoat seems to be reacting.  I'm going to try some MIPA epoxy primer and see if this is more compatible and hopefully avoid me having to sand back to metal any of the new panels. 🤞

#31 All repair work done so far now undersealed

No pictures today but at least all my repairs done so far are now protected and sealed. I've even Waxoyled inside the shock absorber tower. It's now back on it's wheels as I have to move it outside while paint the tailgate on my Granada Mk3. I don't want any sags, runs, dry spray or overspray on plastics (or a large bill for the privilege) so I'm going to do this job myself!

#30 Driver's quarter panel now in epoxy primer

Makes a change from welding 🙂 I'll soon be back on the other side 🥽 let's see what's there, or not there as the case may be. There's a small bit of paint reaction to fix, I'm unsure of the cause. Got to underseal under this arch now and then refit spring and shock. What sort of restoration company would mask up door handles instead of removing them 🤔🙄

#29 Wheel Arch & Sill Alignment

This was how RO Performance fitted the new quarter and sill. I've had to cut this out and line things up.

#28 Boot Floor part 5

Image
Just finishing off the boot floor above the chassis rail And a thinned coat of Rustoleum in body colour. Looks a lot better now. 😊 The rest of the boot floor will need painting but not until I've investigated the left-hand chassis rail...and sorted out what needs doing there.
